Picture-in-picture mode for YouTube stopped working on iOS 14 without paid subscription

Journalists noticed that the mobile version of the YouTube website no longer supports picture-in-picture mode on

iOS 14. At least for free users.

Picture-in-picture mode allows you to watchvideo in a separate window. This feature is now only available to those who have purchased a YouTube Premium subscription. It's unclear whether this is a deliberate move on YouTube's part or just a mistake.

iPad tablet users who usuallyThey visit the desktop version of the YouTube website, there is no such problem. The video hosting application for iPhone does not support picture-in-picture mode at all, regardless of subscription status.

Users have also found that the above mode works with embedded YouTube videos on third-party sites.
