Samsung Galaxy A41 review: 6.1-inch compact

</ img>

Samsung has firmly decided to make its line of smartphones as broad as possible and cover as many

potential audience.As a result, there are really a lot of models and it is very easy to get lost in them. Moreover, the difference between smartphones next to each other in the line is usually very small. Most recently, a new representative of the A-line Samsung Galaxy A41 went on sale. The model is clearly not aiming for the title of bestseller; this place is occupied by the Galaxy A51. The logic is rather to offer a more compact option. After all, both neighboring models received larger screens. And in general, finding a compact smartphone is now very difficult. Let's see what else is interesting about the Samsung Galaxy A41.

What is it and what is interesting?

</ img>

According to the characteristics and appearance of Samsung GalaxyThe A41 turned out to be very close to the Galaxy A31 that we already visited. The main differences affected the display diagonal, dimensions and weight of the smartphone. Also, the hero of today’s review received a smaller battery and lost one of the additional rear cameras. The screen cannot be called small: the diagonal size is 6.1 inches. But compared to most modern smartphones, this is not much. It uses a Super AMOLED panel with FullHD+ resolution and a drop-shaped cutout for a 25 MP front camera. The internals are similar to the Galaxy A31: octa-core MediaTek Helio P65 processor, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal storage plus a MicroSD slot. The rear camera received 3 modules: a 48 MP main camera with phase detection autofocus, an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle and a 5 MP depth sensor. We abandoned the macro camera. Dual-band Wi-Fi and NFC for contactless payment are present, the smartphone runs on Android 10 OS with One UI 2.1 shell. The smartphone has a 3500 mAh battery with 15 W fast charging.

What does the Samsung Galaxy A41 look like?

</ img>

Most current A-line smartphones are veryThey are similar to each other and can only be distinguished by close study. Usually the difference is in small details and size. So it is with the Samsung Galaxy A41: it looks very similar to the Galaxy A31, but is noticeably more compact in size. On the front there is an absolutely standard set: protective glass with slightly rounded edges, a screen with fairly thin frames around the perimeter, a teardrop-shaped cutout for the front camera and a speaker slot above it.

</ img>

The rest of the case is made of glossy plastic. There are no surprises in the location of the control elements. Power and volume buttons on the right side.

</ img>

On the left is a tray, you can install two SIM and a memory card in it at the same time. A good tradition in low-cost Samsung models.

</ img>

</ img>

At the top is an additional microphone. At the bottom end there are also no changes. Type-C, standard 3.5mm headphone jack, microphone and external speaker:

</ img>

As with all current A-Series models, the rearThe smartphone’s cover is made of glossy plastic with curved side edges for a more comfortable grip. A geometric iridescent pattern is also present. This case looks good, but the backdrop itself is easily soiled and will probably quickly get covered with small scratches if you wear a smartphone without a bumper. There are enough colors: there is black, white, blue and red.

All main camera modules and LED flashplaced in a black rectangle in the upper left corner. Standard constructive move for modern smartphones. I am glad that the camera unit practically does not protrude above the body of the smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy A41 looks modern, but notespecially original. It will be quite difficult to distinguish it visually from its A-line neighbors, and even a number of similar smartphones from other manufacturers. But its main charm is its compact (by today's standards) size and weight: 149.9×69.8×7.9 mm, 152 g. The smartphone is really convenient to use, including quite comfortably performing most operations with one hand on the move, something that not many smartphones can boast of now.

How good is the screen?

</ img>

Samsung Galaxy A41 comes with 6.1-inch Super AMOLED display with FullHD+ resolution 2400x1080, aspect ratio 20:9. Pixel density is about 431 ppi. Visually, the screen makes a very pleasant impression: the picture is juicy, viewing angles are maximum. The brightness reserve is quite good; in summer, in the sun, the information remains readable. In the settings (in addition to the basic things) there is a blue filter, a dark interface theme, and Always on Display. The screen has two color display modes: “natural” and “saturated”, in the latter you can adjust the color temperature.

In “natural” mode, the maximum screen brightness was 391.958 cd/m². Color rendition is generally not bad, there is a slight bias towards cool shades, and the color gamut is close to sRGB:

In the “saturated” maximum modebrightness is just slightly higher at 398.38 cd/m². At the same time, color rendition is less natural, the bias towards blue is more noticeable, and the color gamut is significantly wider than sRGB:

What are the unlock methods?

</ img>

The Samsung Galaxy A41 uses a set ofoptical under-screen fingerprint scanner and owner's facial recognition system. Face recognition works quite quickly and accurately in good lighting. The fingerprint scanner is not the fastest: recognition errors are minimal, but the delay is noticeable. I think it should get better with firmware updates.

What about performance, memory, sound and autonomy?

The filling of the Samsung Galaxy A41 is almost completeidentical to that of the Galaxy A31, with the only difference being that only the version with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal eMMC 5.1 memory is available. Perhaps a 6/128 GB version will appear in the future, but there is no information about it yet. The smartphone has a rather modest eight-core MediaTek Helio P65 processor. It is manufactured using a 12nm process technology and includes two 2GHz ARM Cortex-A75 cores, six 1.7GHz ARM Cortex-A55 cores, and a Mali-G52 2EEMC2 GPU clocked at up to 820MHz. The solution is quite modest in performance, which is confirmed by benchmarks. The stress test showed that performance under prolonged peak load can decrease by up to 88%, which is absolutely not critical. I was pleased that the body of the smartphone remains cold.

In everyday use of criticalThere are no performance problems, although the shell and the launch/running of heavy applications cannot be called lightning fast. The smartphone is in no hurry. Although the Galaxy A41 was used after using flagship smartphones for a long time, there may be a factor of habit at play. Modern games work, but at minimum graphics settings. At the same time, Call of Duty simply does not allow you to set it higher, but it works stably and smoothly. PUBG Mobile allows you to set high settings, but playing on them is not very comfortable: FPS drops and rare freezes are noticeable. Things are, of course, better at low levels.

The smartphone is equipped with a dual-band Wi-Fi module802.11 a/b/g/n/ac 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, FM tuner and NFC for contactless payment. Global positioning systems GPS, GLONASS, Beidou and Galileo are supported. In a word, the Samsung Galaxy A41 is in perfect order with regard to wireless interfaces, it has everything you need. In terms of sound, everything is standard: there is one external speaker, a 3.5 mm headphone jack is present.

The battery at 3500 mAh is responsible for autonomy,There is support for fast charging 15 watts. A smartphone without a kit came to us, so it is not possible to say how long it will take to charge from a native PSU. The battery capacity is far from record, but a day without recharging the smartphone can stand without problems. Without games and with more modest use, you can get a day and a half. Standard indicators. To increase the operating time, you can use energy-saving modes.

What about the interface?

Samsung Galaxy A41 runs on Android 10 OSwith the proprietary shell version One UI 2.1, which has been repeatedly described in our numerous reviews of current Samsung smartphones. Including the aforementioned Galaxy A31. The shell is comfortable, well designed and packed with all sorts of extra little things. The organization of the workspace is standard: applications and widgets on desktops, plus a separate application menu that can be disabled. There is also a simple mode with large icons.

How good are the cameras?

</ img>

Samsung Galaxy A41 received a triple rear camera.It consists of a 48 MP main module with f/2.0 aperture, 26 mm EGF and phase detection autofocus, an 8 megapixel ultra-wide-angle with f/2.2 aperture, without autofocus, and a 5 MP depth sensor for blurring the background. We saw almost the same set in the Galaxy A31, but the hero of today’s review lost the fourth macro module. The maximum video resolution is FullHD, there is no stabilization. Front camera - 25 MP, f/2.2. The camera app is extremely easy to use, with fewer modes than more advanced models. There is no night mode, super slow motion, Hyperlapse and other things. The main modes include photo, video and portrait mode, and the additional modes include Pro (with manual settings), Food and Panorama. If desired, they can be placed in the main slider.

The main camera is very goodsnapshots in most situations. Automation works well, including the automatic HDR mode. The detail and realism of color reproduction at a very good level when it comes to scenes with adequate lighting. Noise is already visible in the evening photos, but overall, also not bad. Although a separate night mode would not be out of place. Original photos can be viewed here.

Features of most wide-angle camerasSamsung smartphones in this case also take place. First of all, this applies to autofocus, or rather its absence. Daytime photos look very decent. Evening quite a lot of noise:

In the dry residue

Samsung has a very extensive A-line of smartphones.The Galaxy A41 in this line is positioned by the manufacturer primarily as a compact, lightweight and convenient model. In this aspect, the smartphone is really good and stands out from the rest of the line, which are equipped with 6.4-inch and larger screens. Otherwise, the Samsung Galaxy A41 boasts a very decent quality screen, a full set of up-to-date wireless interfaces, including NFC with contactless payment support, separate trays for two SIM cards and MicroSD, as well as the traditionally convenient proprietary shell One UI 2.1 on the current version of Android 10 On the other hand, the situation is slightly clouded by the cost7400 UAH. There are a large number of interesting competitors in this category, and the same Samsung Galaxy A51 costs only 600 UAH, but its characteristics are noticeably more interesting.

5 reasons to buy a Samsung Galaxy A41:

 • nice AMOLED display;
 • compact sizes and convenient design;
 • A complete set of wireless interfaces, including NFC;
 • separate connectors for 2xSIM and MicroSD;
 • convenient shell One UI 2.1 on Android 10.

2 reasons not to buy Samsung Galaxy A41:

 • the processor would be more powerful;
 • There are strong competitors in the same price category (including the Galaxy A51, which is very close by price).
