Russian scientific article was not published due to sanctions

Russian scientists from the Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) wrote a paper on the connection

between the El Niño-Southern Oscillation and atmospheric electricity, but their paper was not accepted into the peer-reviewed scientific journal Geophysical Research Letters. The reason for this was sanctions against Russia.

Geophysical Research Letters belongs toAmerican Geophysical Union. The editors of the journal wrote to Russian scientists that they could not consider articles directly funded by the Russian government. Such sanctions have been in effect since 2015.

The Russian Academy of Sciences promised to look into the matter and contact the US National Academy of Sciences.

It should be noted that publication in scientific journalsvery important for scientists. In this way, they can share work with other researchers, evaluate their productivity, and validate the quality of their research.
