Picture-in-picture mode for YouTube stopped working on iOS 14 without paid subscription

Reporters noticed that the mobile version of the YouTube website stopped supporting picture-in-picture mode on

iOS 14. At least for free users.

Picture-in-picture mode allows you to watchvideo in a separate window. This feature is now only available to those who have paid for a YouTube Premium subscription. It is not yet clear if this is a deliberate move on the part of YouTube or just a mistake.

IPad users who usuallyvisit the desktop version of the YouTube site, there is no such problem. The video hosting application for iPhone does not support picture-in-picture mode at all, regardless of the subscription status.

Users have also found that the above mode works with embedded YouTube videos on third-party sites.
