What is included?

</ img>

Acer Spin 5 is packed and equipped as standard, like most Acer models. No special features or unexpected bonuses. A standard mustard-colored recyclable cardboard box with basic information required. Inside is a laptop, power supply, power cable and documentation. Formally, the stylus is also worth mentioning, it is “parked” in the laptop case.

What does the Acer Spin 5 look like and build?

</ img>

The Acer Spin 5 is made of magnesium and aluminum alloy, the company has been successfully using it for several years to produce lightweight, yet durable ultraportable models. They decided to release the laptop in a rather neutral gray color. At the same time, the coating is matte and does not collect fingerprints. Glossy decorative elements - only the Acer logo on the top cover. On it, on top of the sides, you can see antennas for the operation of wireless interfaces. What immediately catches your eye when you first open the laptop is the screen, which has an unusual aspect ratio of 3: 2. The screen is "taller" than the standard 16: 9, which allows more information to fit when working with documents or websites.

</ img>

</ img>

The laptop is only 14.9mm thick. Despite this, the number of ports turned out to be quite impressive. On the right side there is a full-size USB 3.2 port, a Kensington Lock jack, a 3.5 mm combo audio jack, a power button, LED indicators and a stylus:

</ img>

</ img>

On the left end there is a socket for connecting a blockpower supply, full-size HDMI and USB 3.2, a microSD card reader, as well as two Type-C with Thunderbolt 3 support (Display port and Power delivery). So you can use some compact 65W Type-C power supply instead of the supplied one:

</ img>

A pair of hinges are visible at the back that allow the cover to be rotated 360 °:

</ img>

In this case, the rear end itself is madeinteresting: it also has ventilation holes for the cooling system, and two sections with perforation for speakers. When using the Acer Spin 5 in the so-called “presentation” mode, the speakers just look at the user.

</ img>

In front there is a small cutout to pry off the lid; it is slightly shifted to the left along with the touchpad.

</ img>

The frames are not record thin, butaesthetically, everything is very good: the side panels are 7.78 mm each, and the screen occupies 80% of the area of the entire front panel. The entire panel is covered with Gorilla glass, which is standard for convertible laptops with touch screens. The webcam is in its usual place, above the display.

</ img>

The laptop has a little more depth thanfamiliar models due to the use of a "higher" screen. This made it possible not to squeeze the keyboard with a touchpad in size, and to install speakers above the keyboard.

</ img>

Bottom - cold air intake holesa cooling system, rubberized feet for the stability of the laptop (at the back there is one solid strip almost the entire width of the case) and a reset button in the hole.

</ img>

Dimensions of Acer Spin 5 are 300x235x14.9 mm, and weight - 1.2 kg, so there will be no problems with daily transportation. Outwardly, the laptop turned out to be quite practical and versatile: it looks restrained and does not collect fingerprints.

How convenient is it to use a laptop?

</ img>

The laptop uses very interesting hinges. They allow you to rotate the lid 360 ° and use the Acer Spin 5 in different modes: laptop, tablet, presentation, and so on. At the same time, if used in a standard “laptop” position, the back part rises slightly for additional ventilation. Acer has named this mechanism Dual Torque Hinge. The screen is well fixed, while, with one hand, the laptop can be opened by about 30 °, then you need to hold it. That with a 360 ° swivel design is quite normal.

</ img>

The keyboard is similar to most currentultraportable models Acer. The top row of F1-F12 buttons is reduced in height and combined with multimedia functions. The block of arrows is not separated, but next to the up arrow are PgUp and PgDown, they are aligned with Home and End through Fn. Both Shift are long. The power button is located on the side of the laptop, and not in the keyboard unit, so there is no need to worry about false presses on it.

</ img>

The keyboard itself is familiar: Island-style keys with a soft but informative stroke and white LED backlighting. I had no complaints about it during its use. The only strange thing is that there is only one backlight level.

</ img>

The touchpad is medium in size, with the Acer being larger. But, as practice has shown, sensitivity and accuracy are enough for absolutely comfortable work. The cover is glass, the finger glides perfectly. From an aesthetic point of view, the black fingerprint scanner in the corner does not fit a little. But it does not interfere with work at all. And the scanner also copes with its immediate task without problems.

</ img>

Now a few words about the stylus. It hides in the laptop case and charges up there. So for most users, it will be constantly charged. It's hard to imagine how long it takes to practice drawing to land it from 100% to 0% charge. How good the stylus is - it's best to ask someone who can draw (spoiler alert: it's not me). But according to subjective feelings, it is quite convenient. Designed in collaboration with Wacom, it recognizes 4096 pressure levels and supports Wacom AES 1.0 technology.

</ img>

How good is the screen?

Acer Spin 5 has 13 installed.5-inch IPS display. And it has interesting not only the aspect ratio of 3: 2, but also the extremely unusual resolution of 2256 × 1504. In practice, no critical problems with scaling the interface and applications were noticed during testing (games are a separate issue). The screen is protected by Gorilla glass. Yes, it will glare in the sun, but for a touchscreen display with stylus support, this is a necessary measure. On personal feelings, a high-quality matrix with good viewing angles, pleasant color rendering and a good margin of brightness is used.

</ img>

The measurement results showed that the displayreally very good. The maximum brightness was very impressive, as for a laptop, 403.313 cd / m2, the brightness of the black field - 0.412 cd / m2, and the static contrast ratio - 979: 1. At the same time, the color rendering is also very good: the average color error ΔE is about 3, there is a slight overkill of blue, the color temperature is slightly higher than the standard. And the color gamut is very close to sRGB.

What about performance, autonomy and sound?

</ img>

To begin with, it is worth remembering that the laptop hasIntel Project Athena certification (which received its development in the person of Intel Evo). In general terms, just in case: Project Athena is Intel's initiative to create high-end ultraportables. To put it simply, a laptop must meet a certain list of requirements to receive Project Athena certification. Among which are a high-quality screen with a resolution of at least FullHD, Intel Core i5 and i7, at least 8 GB of RAM and NVMe SSD of 256 GB or more, support for Thunderbolt 3, Wi-Fi 6, and so on. As you might guess, the Acer Spin 5 SP513-54N meets all these requirements. Our Acer Spin 5 configuration is powered by an Intel Core i7-1065G7 Ice Lake processor. This is a 10nm quad-core processor with support for 8 HyperThreading threads, 8MB SmartCache. Clock speed - 1.3 GHz (up to 3.9 GHz Turbo Boost). The standard TDP is 15W. Responsible for the graphics is the integrated Intel Iris Plus G7 chip, Gen 11 generation with 64 execution units, which operate at frequencies from 300 to 1100 MHz. RAM - 16 GB LPDDR4X, it works in dual channel mode. On the wireless interfaces, there is a new Wi-Fi 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) with MU-MIMO support and Bluetooth 5.0.

</ img>

</ img>

For the performance of Acer Spin 5 SP513-54N -nice modern work laptop. It is designed for working with documents, mail and is suitable for basic image editing. So in processor tests it demonstrates very sensible results. From the point of view of heavy graphics, the results are modest, which is expected. There is no discrete video adapter, and integrated graphics are not intended for games.

The drive is a 512 GB SK Hynix BC511 SSD. This is a mid-range M.2 PCIe 3.0 drive:

</ img>

On the official website of the manufacturer they promiseread speed up to 2300 MB / s and write speed up to 1000 MB / s. Real indicators are fully consistent with those stated. Yes, it is not the fastest SSD, but the speed is quite good and significantly higher than the models with the SATA interface.

</ img>

</ img>

The cooling system uses one fanand a copper plate D8 with a thickness of 1.5 mm. As shown by the stress test, the laptop has no problems with overheating, with prolonged peak loads the insides do not heat up to more than 85 °, no throttling is observed. At the same time, CO is practically inaudible. As for the heating of the case, the situation is standard for most of such laptops: the area above the keyboard becomes warm, which is not critical during operation.

</ img>

The laptop is absolutely not designed for gaming. And the point is not only in the "office" hardware, but also in the non-standard display: as practice has shown, games are not yet able to correctly scale to the aspect ratio of 3: 2. But still, for the sake of interest, XCOM 2 was launched, FPS at minimum settings - about 25 frames per second.

</ img>

</ img>

Built-in stereo speakers are quite familiar toits form factor. Conventionally, watching a movie in a hotel room will be quite comfortable. Listening to music is not very good: there are not enough lows and it sounds flat.

</ img>

The laptop is powered by a four-cellbattery 56 W * h. There is support for fast charging, they promise up to 15 hours of work. I suspect that this means working in ideal conditions, with disabled wireless interfaces and minimum brightness. In real conditions, the laptop turned out to be quite tenacious. In standard office mode (a browser with a bunch of tabs, music from an online service and a little Photoshop, 30% brightness), the laptop lasted about 7.5 hours, which is very good.

There is not much pre-installed software. Their useful - a utility for adjusting the sound of DTS Audio Processing with presets and equalizer. Acer Quick Access with a pair of switches: blue filter and USB charging when the laptop is off. And Acer Care Center: diagnose, restore and update drivers.
