Apple allows iTunes ad blocker to remove ads from Apple News

iTunes has a new ad-blocking app that works not only in Safari, but also in others

standard applications. Been Choice can remove ads from anywhere, including Facebook, Twitter, and even Apple News.

Unlike other similar iOS apps, Been Choice filters traffic in other ways: through Safari and through a special VPN service.Using the second method, Been Choice filters out ads with "deep packet inspection," saysTechCrunch.

This technology is similar to that usedlarge companies to prevent important sensitive information from being leaked from the internal network, explains Been Choice co-founder Dave Yoon. With its help, Been Choice blocks ads even before it arrives on your device.

Been Choice says the app mayclear almost everything from advertising, including Pinterest, Pandora, Yahoo, The New York Times and Apple News, as well as block affiliate ads and videos in CNN or CNBC applications.

Another distinguishing feature of Been Choiceis that if you decide not to filter the advertising content, you can get a reward for that. Now it is available in cash (via PayPal), but the developers promise to add Amazon gift cards and the ability to send their rewards to charity.

Of course, everything is not so simple: $ 20 of real money equals 30,000 reward points, and it takes a lot of time to earn points, TechCrunch reports. In addition, receiving a reward is associated with the fact that you disclose more personal data than usual.

In accordance with Been Choice's privacy policy, the app may search packages for information about your device, carrier, and network, information about the apps you use, and "information about you."Unfortunately, it can also ask for "information about your activities and transactions."

It's not entirely clear what Been Choice does with this data, so we recommend that you think twice before trying to make money with this application.

It should be said that similar ones based on VPNad blockers on iOS have appeared before, but somewhat unexpectedly, Apple’s decision to endorse such an app now that iOS 9 came out with the new Apple News, which could be harmed by Been Choice. Also, third-party developers may suffer from it.

Developers releasing free apps andEarning on advertising in them, do not get a penny from users of Been Choice and similar programs. If Been Choice and other similar applications become popular, this can become a problem and hamper the development of the free software market.

Therefore, do not be surprised if soon Apple changes its mind and decides to remove Been Choice from iTunes.
