Chinese rover Chang'e 5 has found a source of trillions of kilograms of water on the moon - it can be used for habitation and production of rocket fuel

Chinese scientists have found a potential source of trillions of kilograms of water on the Moon. Helped them with this

Chang'e 5 rover.

What is known

Scientists have long speculated that impact glass on the Moon could contain water. More than 50 years ago, as part of the Apollon mission, samples of lunar rock were delivered to Earth, in which water was found.

Chinese experts studied the rock mined as part of the Chang'e 5 mission, which was successfully completed in December 2020. As it turned out, each gram of lunar rock contains 0.002 grams of water.

At first glance it might seem that thisA little. However, on the scale of the entire moon, we are dealing with huge reserves. In particular, scientists suggest that 2.7 * 1014 kg (270 trillion kg) of water can be stored in shock glass. For comparison, there are 1.26 * 1024 kg of water on Earth.

It can be used not only for livingpeople on a natural satellite, but also for the production of rocket fuel. Current scientific theories suggest that water on the Moon is formed by solar winds when hydrogen ions combine with oxygen in the regolith. Even though some of the water evaporates, the impact glass can absorb and retain it.
