Cookies made for the first time on the ISS

It is noted that different teams of astronauts tried to cook meals in space five times, but each time

unsuccessful. The cookies also could not be baked according to the recipe developed for the Earth - the researchers baked them in the oven for 25 minutes at a temperature of 149 ° C, but they turned out raw. Only when they kept the dough in the oven for two hours did the confectionery product turn out ready.

At the same time, the astronauts did not try the cookies that they prepared. It was brought back to Earth two weeks later, frozen and placed in a refrigerator in a U.S. laboratory.

Further tests will show if it is safe foreating. Part of the concerns are related to the fact that the manufacturers of the furnace expected a difference in cooking time in space and on Earth, but it should have been several times smaller.

"We need to study what actually isthe driving force behind this difference, but it’s definitely a cool result,” said one of the engineers, Mary Murphy. “Overall it is clear that this is a very groundbreaking first experiment of its kind.”
