Digit of the day: What percentage of global electricity will the Internet consume in ten years?

11% of global energy consumption will be in data centers by 2030

Researcher from Huawei Technologies Sweden

Anders Andrae told reportersthat in the coming year, only the world's data storage and processing centers will consume up to 651 terawatt hours of electricity. And this is comparable to how much the entire energy sector in Canada produces. By 2030, the consumption of data centers will only increase.

According to Andre’s calculations, in the next decadedata centers can more than double their electricity needs. By 2030, computer consumption will account for 11% of global energy consumption. A significant part of this will come from the use of “clouds” for storing data from Internet users.

According to the expert, by 2040 the situation will become completely unacceptable.
