Galaxy S8 and Note 8 will not receive Android 10 updates

Samsung has made an official statement. Galaxy S8, S8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8 smartphones will not be eligible for the update

Android 10.Note that Android Pie and Android Oreo OS updates were previously available for them. Therefore, it is not surprising that they have reached the end of the software support promised by the manufacturer.

In November 2019, German supportSamsung customers have announced the imminent appearance of Android 10 on the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. A few weeks later, representatives of the Samsung service center assured that the update would also be released on the Galaxy Note 8 during 2020. Finally, it turned out that the brand’s customer service spread false information, according to colleagues at SamMobile.

The media were able to interview representativesSamsung on the sidelines of the Unpacked Galaxy S20 conference. Representatives categorically denied customer service claims. No, One UI 2.0, based on the Android 10 update, will not be offered on two smartphones released in 2017.

This is not a complete surprise. Samsung has not included these three smartphones in the official update schedule for Android 10. In addition, users of the three devices have already been able to install Android Oreo and Android Pie. As promised, the brand still offers two major Android updates on its high-end devices. Offering a third major upgrade is not common with the manufacturer. Recall that this is not the first time that the Samsung Service Department has mistakenly announced the receipt of certain updates.

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8, on the other hand.should continue to receive security fixes, at least for a while. Despite this, the Galaxy S8 is already almost three years old, so it may stop receiving updates in the near future. Technically speaking, Samsung no longer has an obligation to deliver security patches to the device, but the February 2020 fix is already available for both S8 and Note 8. Future patches designed to fix serious issues may continue to arrive, albeit more slowly.
