Researchers started with the idea of implanting in the eyenanoneedles, which decompose over time, releasing the drug. These needles are so small that they will not cause pain or discomfort. To inject them into the eye, the nanoneedles were attached to a contact lens, which then dissolved without a trace.
Scientists have already tested their product onrabbits and found that the lenses help to almost completely reduce corneal neovascularization (corneal neovascularization is a pathological condition in which newly formed vessels grow on the surface of the cornea) after only 28 days.
