HIMARS is not enough: Poland is going to sign a contract with South Korea for the purchase of more than 300 MLRS K239 Chunmoo

Recently, the Polish Ministry of Defense announced that it was going to purchase a large number of American

MLRS HIMARS. As it turned out, this is not enough for the Poles.

What is known

According to publication I.PL, the country's Minister of Defense Mariusz Błaszczak will go to South Korea on October 17 to sign a contract for the purchase of Korean K239 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket systems. We are talking about more than 300 installations. The first deliveries of the MLRS should begin in 2023. In addition to the installations, the contract will also include ammunition with a firing range of up to 70 and 300 km.

For those who are not in the know

K239 Chunmoo is in service with the Southern ArmyKorea for seven years. The development of the MLRS is carried out by the South Korean company Hanwha Defense. The mount can use different types of ammunition: 130mm, 227mm (HIMARS compatible) and 239mm. The K239 Chunmoo has two containers with 6-12 rockets. The maximum operating range of the MLRS is 300 km.
