Today we decided to disassemble the Apple TV device and see what's inside. This is definitely a device

only for those who like to watch TV.The question arises: why did Apple include a smaller hard drive in the Apple TV than in the Video iPod? The last few generations of iPods have been able to connect to TVs, sacrificing video quality, so such a small amount of memory is surprising.

We found a way to increase the Apple TV's hard drive memory from the initial 40GB to 120GB. Below we will tell you how to do it.

Inside the box with the Apple TV is not much. There is an instruction manual, power cable, Apple Remote, and Apple TV itself.

To disassemble the case of Apple TV, enoughuntwist a total of eight bolts. After that, you can remove the 40GB Fujitsu hard drive. Apple uses a green thermal panel to avoid overheating the hard drive.

After that, you need to move all parts of the original hard drive to a new one. It will take a lot of time, but in the process you can study the content of Apple TV.

Amazing how few components in so manypowerful device. In addition to the motherboard, there is almost nothing there. There is an 802.11n card, as in Apple computers. You will also find a fan to cool the case and a large power transmitter. It is big in comparison with the device itself. In addition to hard drive memory, nothing can be improved.

The Apple TV has a hole for the Wi-Fi antenna. Thus, the only barrier to signal transmission is plastic. Accordingly, Apple TV catches Wi-Fi very well.

When you're done with the new hard drive, you can fix it in the case. We used a 120GB Western Digital drive, and we just placed the old one next to it.

There are several sections on the original hard drive that must be saved for Apple TV to work. On a 40GB drive, only 35.83GB is available for content.

After installing a new hard drive, an additional 74.66GB of memory will be added to the available 35.83GB. To copy partitions, we used a disk utility.

After setting up the device via iTunes, you will get an Apple TV with 107GB of available memory. This is three times more than the standard Apple TV, and 20GB more than the best iPod.
