According to insider and data miner @Za_Raczke, Qualcomm is developing a new ARM processor for laptops.
What is known
The new product will be called Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 and it willwill compete with Apple M-series processors. The chip will receive several versions and 12 Oryon cores based on Nuvia Phoenix: 8 productive cores with a maximum clock frequency of 3.4 GHz and 4 energy-efficient ones at 2.5 GHz. According to the source, the SoC will have 36MB of L2 cache divided into three clusters, along with 8MB of L3, 12MB of system-level cache and 4MB of GPU cache.
First of all – the CPU.
As I previously leaked, the highest model of Hamoa has 8 performance cores and 4 power efficient ones. Qualcomm is testing the chip at ~3.4GHz (performance cores) and ~2.5GHz (efficient cores).— Kuba Wojciechowski⚡ (@Za_Raczke) January 20, 2023
The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 should ship withAdreno 740 graphics. The same GPU module is installed in Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Devices based on the new processor will be able to display images on three monitors: two with 4K resolution and one with 5K resolution. The chip will support 4K/120 FPS decoding, 4K/60 FPS encoding with the AV1 codec like the Apple M2 chip, and up to 64GB of LPDDR5X RAM.
When to expect
Unfortunately, you shouldn't expect the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 anytime soon. The new product should be shown in 2024. By the way, by this time Apple plans to release the series with the M3 chip.
