Easter egg inside!
If you updated the Instagram app and openedits settings menu, you will notice that when you open it, something unusual appears — Several emojis appear, hinting at an Easter egg. If you keep dragging, you'll enter a new hidden Instagram menu where you can choose a different icon for the app.
Among the icon selection options — the classic Polaroid you might remember from Instagram's yesteryears. And at the top of the page a few lines read:
Indeed, as soon as you select the icon, itwill now appear on your home screen instead of the default modern icon. It's nice to see how we've gone from a highly detailed Polaroid icon to a modern minimalist one in five years. Once upon a time, these carefully crafted icons were the norm instead of today's pursuit of minimalism and simplicity.
We don't know if the option to choose the Instagram icon will remain, but this is a great excuse to look for Easter eggs right now.
In his birthday blog postInstagram Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, also promises that the app will see "major changes" and "big improvements in messaging" in the coming months.
