On its website, the company said it would stopsupport for a 20-year-old graphics API, but assured that "applications and games based on DirectX 9 can still run through the D3D9On12 interface."

That is, although modern GPUsIntel will not have specific drivers for older games that run exclusively on DX9 such as Unreal Tournament, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Team Fortress 2, you can still play them on newer hardware. This does not mean that there will be no problems, but Microsoft is taking responsibility for optimizing DirectX 9 games.
