The last members of the Alder Lake family,The 12th generation Intel Core SoCs for IoT edge (formerly Alder Lake PS) combine the performance profile and power consumption of mobile chips, but the LGA socket flexibility of desktop chips, according to Intel. Which means they can be installed directly on the motherboard or in a socket for easy replacement.

Supplied as a multi-chip package, newprocessors combine Alder Lake cores with an integrated Platform Controller Hub (PCH) for I/O functionality and integrated Iris Xe graphics with 96 graphics execution units.

These new chips have a base power range from15 to 45 W, with 15-watt parts having up to 10 processor cores, and 45-watt – from 8 to 14 cores. Up to 6 of these cores are multi-threaded performance cores, and up to 8 – single-threaded efficient cores.

They also feature the Intel Thread Director feature introduced in Alder Lake, which monitors thread performance to ensure that workloads are distributed to the right cores.

In terms of computing, the chipmaker alsoclaims that 96 graphics execution units provide a high degree of parallelism in AI workloads for edge data analysis, and the processor cores are also equipped with Intel Deep Learning Boost, instructions designed to speed up AI processing. The chipmaker added that its OpenVINO toolkit for developing such applications is fully supported by the new chips.

Another key opportunity to managesystems deployed in edge scenarios is that these processors include Intel vPro features that enable remote management capabilities built into the hardware.
