Monkeypox infection map published

According to updated data, doctors have already confirmed 92 infections with the virus around the world. Another 28 cases

are under review.

Currently only registered in the USAone confirmed case of the virus in a person with no history of travel to African regions. There, the disease is endemic, namely Benin, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Ghana (found only in animals), Ivory Coast, Liberia, Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leone, and South Sudan.

Continued surveillance efforts will help identify more cases worldwide, the World Health Organization (WHO) said in a press release about the outbreak. 

Monkeypox is a zoonotic disease.transmitted from animals to humans. Although the first cases of monkeypox were observed in monkeys in 1958, the disease is transmitted by smaller animals such as rodents. Symptoms of the disease include unexplained rashes and lesions, as well as headaches, body aches, and weakness , fever and swollen lymph nodes. The incubation period of infection can range from 5 to 21 days.
