Motorola moto g7 play: review of an inexpensive smartphone with Always On Display

Motorola introduced updated moto G series smartphones to the Russian market.

Once there was a terribly overrated vehicle moto g7. Apparently, the company hoped to leave on nostalgic feelings for the legendary brand. But they did not take into account that buyers remembering this brand are already well over 40, and there are very few of them left. Now the famous brand does not help, you have to promote new products on your own. Does motoG7 play have such powers?

Design

What the manufacturer managed in terms of design, somake the moto g range recognizable. The new smartphone does not put on an imitation of the luxury of a glossy case, no overflows, it is the most practical device that will delight an adult audience. The case is compact, fits perfectly in the hand, the surface of the back panel is slightly rough, which creates a pleasant tactile sensation and does not allow the smartphone to slip out. Needless to say, no fingerprints remain on such a surface. In general, the device looks pretty neat, always well-groomed and clean, high-quality plastic is used, it gives a feeling of reliability.

From the decor there is a logo, which is locatedto the fingerprint scanner, which in turn sits under the round block of the camera. The latter protrudes strongly from the case, which does not give the apparatus stability when it lies on the table. All statuses, notifications and other relevant information are displayed on a locked screen (AOD function), while Always On works here despite the fact that the matrix is IPS. Of course, the information is not displayed as constantly as in the function name, as soon as you touch the screen, the information pops up. At the top there is a cutout, quite large, but it looks organically, as it is completely filled with a flash, a camera lens and a speaker.

Screen

The screen has a diagonal of 5.7 ”, a matrix with a resolution of 1512x720, a pixel density of 294 ppi. The front panel with the display is completely covered with third-generation Gorilla Glass, scratches on such a glass appear much more reluctant than with a simple tempered safety glass. The viewing angles are maximum, the color rendering is slightly brighter than natural, but you can always choose a color profile for yourself. The reserve of brightness is enough for sunny weather outdoors, anti-reflective coating helps.

Cameras

There is only one front camera, sensor 8megapixels. The quality of the photos is acceptable, but in low light conditions noise appears and detail drops. The same applies to the main camera with a 13 megapixel sensor - in good light, it creates good quality pictures, but in the room or at dusk, the detail deteriorates. However, the cameras here are budget ones, the sensors are cheap. You will have to get used to the camera software and look for the necessary settings for a long time, you cannot find the manual mode in the menu, there is a separate button for this. As for the capabilities of video recording, the camera shoots in 4K at 30 frames per second and at 60 at a resolution of 1080p. Optical stabilization is not a lift.

Performance

The processor used here is mediocreQualcomm’s Snapdragon 632 is eight 1.8 gigahertz cores and an Adreno 506 graphics accelerator. 2 gigabytes of RAM, a 32 gigabyte drive are installed to help the chipset, and file storage can be expanded with a microSD card. The performance of such a bundle is average, AnTuTu does not even show 100 points, but the graphics accelerator is quite playable. So, it’s very possible to play modern games on a smartphone on medium settings.

The autonomy of the smartphone provides a battery on3000 mAh, which with modest characteristics and dimensions of the device holds a charge as standard for a day. Of course, if you play resource-intensive games, you will have to charge more often than once a day.
