New York allowed to vaccinate adolescents from 16 years old

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that people ages 16 to 29 are eligible to receive the vaccine with

April 6.

At the same time, teenagers aged 16 and 17 years will be able toreceive only the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. The fact is that this is the only vaccine in the United States approved for use by persons under 18 years of age. It is noted that parental consent will be required for vaccination of children aged 16 and 17 years. The exception is for teenagers who are married or are parents.

None of the vaccines available in the United States have yet been approved for people under 16 years of age.

According to the Federal Centers for Control anddisease prevention, approximately one in five New Yorkers have been vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Monday, April 5. Just over one-third of state residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

The new rules will allow an additional 1.7 million people to be vaccinated, officials from the state health department said.
