Northrop Grumman may receive $9 billion to develop the B-21 Raider nuclear bomber, the NGAD sixth-generation fighter, and the Sentinel ICBM

We continue to introduce you to the information that Bloomberg wrote about, having familiarized itself with the internal

documents of the United States Department of Defense. Northrop Grumman, like Lockheed Martin, may also receive a large amount, but under a different program.

What is known

The Pentagon will ask for $145 billion to develop newtechnology in addition to the $170 billion that will be spent on arms acquisition in fiscal year 2024. Northrop Grumman will be the largest recipient of the funds. In case of a positive outcome, the American manufacturer will receive $ 9 billion for the development of three key projects.

Most will be allocated to the developmentthe LGM-35A Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile – $3.7 billion. The cost of the entire program will be approximately $100 billion. Northrop Grumman recently conducted an engine test for the Sentinel. Now it is the turn of flight tests of the power plant. The Sentinel will replace the Minuteman III and will remain in service until 2075.

The second program is the development of nuclearnew generation bomber B-21 Raider. It was introduced in December 2022 and will make its first flight by the end of this year. In total, the US Air Force wants to have 100 aircraft of the sixth generation, as it is called. Recently, the Service has published new images of the Raider, which revealed an interesting feature of the strategic bomber. For the development of the aircraft, the company may receive another $ 3 billion in fiscal 2024.

Another $2.3 billion, if approved, will be sentfor the development of the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program, under which the sixth generation fighter is being developed. It is expected that the military will receive 200 aircraft, and the first will appear in the middle of the next decade. They will replace the F-22 Raptor, which, unfortunately for the United States, became the prototype of the fifth-generation Chinese fighter J-20 Mighty Dragon.
