On the Huawei smartphones will appear the Russian operating system "Aurora"

Recently, when Google broke off cooperation with Huawei due to US sanctions, information appeared that Android

on smartphones will be replaced by the Russian Aurora operating system. Now this is no longer a joke: Aurora will actually appear on Huawei devices.

What is known

According to Deputy Head of the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications MikhailMamonov, the decision was made at the level of the heads of Russia and China. Active discussions are currently underway between the Chinese corporation and the developer of the Aurora mobile operating system (a Rostelecom structure). They plan to enter into a non-disclosure agreement in the near future.

Mamonov assures that a pilot project to install Aurora on Huawei smartphones will be launched before the end of this year.

“I have no doubt that the pilot can be launched before the end of the year and a Russian operating system will appear on some Huawei devices in some format,” said a representative of the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications.

Most likely, at first Aurora will be launched only on a few models in test mode.

By the way, “Aurora” used to have a different name -Sailfish OS. It was created by Jolla, which was founded by people from Nokia. Back in 2016, the Russian Open Mobile Platform LLC became a partner of the Finnish company, and in 2018, Rostelecom bought 75 percent of the shares of the operating system developer. Then they decided to rename the OS to “Aurora”. It is based on open source projects and includes closed source components.
