Qualcomm revealed the characteristics of the Snapdragon 865 chip: 8 cores, 7 nanometers, 5G-modem X55, support for displays up to 144 Hz and photos up to 200 megapixels

Qualcomm revealed the features of its new flagship processor Snapdragon 865.

What did they say?

The new product, like the Snapdragon 855, is builton a 7-nanometer process technology and has 8 cores. Four high-performance Cortex-A77: three operating at a maximum frequency of 2.84 GHz and one at 2.4 GHz. The remaining four cores are energy efficient with a frequency of 1.8 GHz.

The processor received an Adreno graphics accelerator650, which is 25% more powerful than its predecessor. Thanks to it, smartphones based on the new SoC will support screen resolutions up to 4K at 60 GHz, up to Quad HD+ at 144 Hz, as well as Rec2020, HDR10 and HDR10+ color gamut.

Snapdragon 865 is also equipped with the X55 5G modem,which is not built into the processor, but will be supplied separately. It operates in mmWave and sub-6 networks at TDD and FDD frequencies. Its maximum download speed reaches 7.5 Gbps and upload speed reaches 3 Gbps.

The new processor also boastsimproved fifth-generation AI Engine with 15TOPs of processing power and a new Spectra 480 ISP image processing chip. It can create photos with a resolution of up to 200 MP and can operate at a speed of 2 GB/s.

Naturally, the Snapdragon 865 supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, dual-frequency GPS, USB-C, dual SIM, and up to 16 GB of RAM such as LPDDR4X (2133 MHz) and LPDDR5 (2750 MHz).

When to expect

Smartphones based on the Snapdragon 865 SoC will appear in early 2020. One of the first will be the flagship Xiaomi Mi 10.
