Russia says it needs to regulate global Internet companies

Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Russia should

take measures to regulate the activities of global Internet companies.

According to Zakharova, the US Embassy in Moscowpublished in social networks "messages in support of illegal actions in a number of Russian cities on January 23". The spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry said that Russia regards this as "gross interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation."

Zakharova clarified that Russia is now studyingactions of American Internet sites. As the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry says, a response "reaction" is likely not only in the form of a statement. Zakharova argues that "concrete practical actions must be taken here."

TASS recalls that earlier a representative of the Ministry said that Russia will spread the idea to the UN that it is necessary to develop rules to regulate global Internet companies.
