Russia says it needs to regulate global Internet companies

The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Maria Zakharova said that Russia should

take measures to regulate the activities of global Internet companies.

According to Zakharova, the US Embassy in Moscowpublished “messages in support of illegal actions in a number of Russian cities on January 23” on social networks. A Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said that Russia regards this as “gross interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation.”

Zakharova clarified that Russia is now studyingactions of American Internet sites. As a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman says, a response is likely not only in the form of a statement. Zakharova argues that “concrete practical actions must be taken here.”

TASS recalls that earlier a representative of the Ministry said that Russia will spread the idea to the UN that it is necessary to develop rules to regulate global Internet companies.
