Samsung TVs of 2021: How the Company Used the Tough 2020 to Explore (and Found) New Opportunities

Literally two months after the loud January presentation of The First Look 2021, Samsung held another

presentation of TVs, which tolda little more about the 2021 TV lineup (plus soundbars, Flip boards, cutting-edge monitors and Premiere laser projectors). Throughout this new presentation, I asked myself a simple question: when did Samsung manage to break away from all possible competitors in TVs and create such a line of very different (both in functionality and target audience) TVs and related devices? This question led me to an answer that I personally think is the most plausible: the company simply tried more than others and worked in several directions at once: technology, design, trying to predict the future behavior of people. And also, apparently, she allowed her engineers and designers ... to dream about the future. All of humanity spent the past 2020, for the most part, sitting at home. Which dramatically affected the growth of the TV market. At this point, a puzzle in my head formed: experiments with technologies and design, identifying new market segments and working with them, 15 years of continuous leadership in the TV market and a global lockdown that spurred humanity to spend more time in front of the TV. Here are the components of the canvas that we were shown at the presentation: from picture TVs to a laser projector. And from cutting-edge technology to new and modern use cases for TVs: on the terrace of the house, to watch videos from tiktok, video calls with colleagues or create a home theater with an incredibly huge screen.

The Frame TV series

I already wrote about why Samsung firstturned televisions into pictures, and then how it changed our world. We are talking about TVs, which are visually impossible to distinguish from pictures at a distance of even half a meter. In addition to the function of televisions, such models are capable of carrying an aesthetic load in the interior, while allowing at the same time to change the projected image of a painting on a photo from a home archive or a canvas from an art gallery at any time. This year, NAVA Contemporary and Etsy have joined partners giving access to their image library. And the built-in memory of TVs has been increased from 500 megabytes to 6 gigabytes, which allows storing up to 1200 images in 4K resolution in the TV's memory.

Samsung went even further this year withexpansion of interior possibilities for TVs of The Frame series. This is the My Shelf, which allows you to organically fit into the interior of the TV by surrounding it with a shelf that matches the style of its frame. An important point: the shelf can be modified, in fact, it is a kind of constructor. It looks like this:

</ img>

It's amazing how an electronics manufacturer came toto the need to change interiors and design furniture to make the TV such an organic part of the home interior. Note how the modular design of the shelves allows you to easily change their appearance: it is suitable for 55, 65 and 75-inch TVs. From the outside, it may not look like magic, but think about how such a step improves the efficiency of logistics: it makes no sense to keep six different units of products in the warehouse, when two are enough, with a different color palette.

The Serif TV series

The second series of interior TVs The Serif is notreceived updates, but Samsung representatives did not fail to once again boast of the spectacular appearance of these TVs and how their users love to share photos of their The Serif on social networks:

The Sero TV

We have a separate text explaining whatthe popularity of TVs of this series is based (spoiler: vertical video has already become a part of our life, whether we like it or not). Apple's AirPlay 2 and TikTok support will appear on The Sero TVs this year. Which, for sure, will be appreciated by their target audience. On my own I will add a moment that is not obvious to the uninitiated reader: such TVs can be bought not only for installation in a living room or a teenager's room. They will look great in the interiors of fashion stores and shopping centers. That is, business owners should pay attention to such TVs.

Premiere laser projector

We first learned about this projector for two months.ago, but then there were no details. Now they are: the laser projector has got its own name: Premiere. This is the industry's first tri-laser projector with 4K resolution.

</ img>

It is installed at a distance of 5 centimetersup to any single-color wall, has small dimensions for such a device and creates an image with a space diagonal of 130 inches. Its design has smoothed corners and uses a fabric finish.

</ img>

At the end of this ode, Samsung plans to introduce special roll-up screens for this project, which will look elegant in the interior when folded.

</ img>

Acoustics with speakers are located inside the projectoraccording to scheme 4.2 (yes, it has two subwoofers and two high-frequency tweeters) with a total power of 40 watts! And it also supports the Tap View function - connecting a broadcast from a smartphone with one touch.

The Terrace Series

Another interior (or rather, already exterior)TV set. The Terrace model is designed for installation on terraces, that is, outside the rooms. Obviously, this solution will appeal to the owners of not only private houses, but also restaurants, cafes and hotels. As a great solution to create a cozy atmosphere. The TV will be available in 55, 65 and 75 inches. Once again, I am amazed at how far you can go if you start thinking about how else you can use the TV. I am sure that in 10 years, when we start seeing such TVs everywhere, everyone will wonder why no one has thought of them before, because all the necessary technologies have existed for more than one year.

</ img>

Of course, taking into account placement outside the home, suchTVs have the necessary protection against dust and water according to the IP55 class. The 75-inch model will be called Full Sun and will receive additional protection from direct sunlight, allowing it to work up to 6 hours in the sun (while the TV can lower brightness to protect against overheating).

Monitor Samsung G9: Quantum MiniLED

We recently published a review of the first inthe world of gaming monitor with a 49-inch curved screen with a curved radius of 1 meter Samsung G9. Now we are waiting for its update with a screen on quantum LEDs MiniLED. Which will give him even more control over the brightness and detail of the image.

Smart Monitor

If you ask the question - how do we usea large screen at home, it is obvious that in the overwhelming majority of cases it is working at a computer or watching TV. Samsung has created the first smart monitor to replace today's TV. The model is simply called Smart Monitor, supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Wireless DeX and Apple AirPlay 2, which allows you to work with it without using a computer (for example, by connecting a smartphone or tablet via the Samsung Dex mobile application). It differs from a TV in the absence of tuners and a SmartTV unit; all this is replaced by a connected mobile device. The dimensions of the screen diagonal have not yet been announced. I know people who do not have a TV - it is completely replaced by a monitor with a computer. Probably, for such users Smart Monitor will be interesting.

FLIP Interactive Display

The past year has taught us all to live in conditionslockdown. This meant remote meetings and distance learning for schoolchildren and students. Electronic whiteboards have existed before, but Samsung offers a fresh look at them from the standpoint of including the display. The Samsung Flip interactive touchscreen display can be installed in both horizontal and vertical (in the form of flipcharts familiar to offices) orientations. And it will be available in 55, 65, 75 and 85-inch versions.

</ img>

Touch screen lets you paint overexisting image, as on a regular school board. Interestingly, the Flip supports up to 20 simultaneous mobile device connections that can sync their images to it. This is how learning in the 21st century should look like!

Neo QLED and Micro LED TVs

We have a separate article about the advantages of these TVs. There you can read what the latest technologies are behind them and why this is the next step in the evolution of televisions.

Soundbar Q950A: 11.1.4-channel (!) Sound

Finally, along with TVs and monitorsintroduced the 2021 soundbar lineup, which includes the Q600A, Q700A, Q800A, Q900A and, most interestingly, the Q950A. For the first time in the industry, it uses 11.1.4 speakers. The new Bass Boost feature allows you to boost the bass in one click.

</ img>

I would like to already hear all this sound live, because the pictures and descriptions are already drooling. The soundbar supports Tap Sound and works directly with Samsung Bixby and Amazon Alexa voice assistants.

</ img>

For 2021 soundbars, there are a pair of wirelessrear speakers 9500S. They are compatible with older soundbar models from Q700A and up. In the flagship model of the Q950A soundbar, they are included in the package.

The bottom line: it is clear who spent 2020 not in vain

As a result, there is an involuntary feeling that Samsungwas able to get the most out of the coronavirus year 2020 and create new market segments. And if 6 years ago the first designer TVs The Frame looked like pure experiment, today you can see where the experiments of a leader trying to grow and looking for new segments for making efforts can lead. Asking yourself the right questions about what the world will be like in the near future. And how consumer habits will change.

P.S. Well, who could have guessed that quarantine confinement at home would lead to such rapid technological progress?
