Scientists have denied the theory of the influence of the phases of the moon on the mental state of people

As part of the study, a group of scientists analyzed case histories of 17,996 patients who underwent

treatment in two psychiatric clinicsGraubunden in the period from 2005 to 2015. Scientists have tried to find evidence of a link between the phases of the moon - new moon, first quarter, full moon, last quarter - and exacerbations of mental disorders.

According to the doctors, while studying medical records, they do notfound "a significant connection between the lunar cycle and the length of stay in hospitals." According to them, the phase of the moon does not affect the treatment of patients for psychological help.

Despite the widespread belief that the moon affectsmental health and subsequent psychiatric treatment, our study could not establish any connection between the phases of the lunar cycle and the frequency of cases of admission to treatment.

Theories about the relationship of the phases of the moon and mental healthpeople are known from the time of Babylon and ancient Egypt. They reached their peak in the Middle Ages, where many myths arose around this phenomenon, in particular about werewolves and vampires.

Despite this, there are psychiatrists whobelieve that the lunar cycles affect the condition of patients. Researchers advise doctors to base their treatment on scientific facts, but also to monitor the psychosomatic disorders of patients.
