Scientists have learned to treat brain injuries with nanoparticles

A fresh article was published in the American scientific journal Annals of Neurology, which talks about the latest

development by scientists. They managed to create special nanoparticles that can significantly reduce brain swelling in traumatic brain injuries.

During traumatic brain injuries, the human bodyfaced with a huge problem in the form of the extinction of a huge number of brain cells. This is due to the fact that fluid begins to accumulate inside it, and edema also occurs. The only true solution to this problem today is trepanation of the skull, which can hardly be called an elegant and painless solution. But thanks to new research by scientists in this field, it was possible to slow down the development of edema using nanoparticles coated with antibodies. They managed to stop the migration of monocytes by the usual “distraction” of the immune system, which directed all its main forces to the fight against nanoparticles, ignoring the brain.

”The results of our experiments exceeded allexpectations. We suggest that these nanoparticles may be the first effective and practical tool for saving the lives of people with serious brain injuries, ”said lead author of the study, John Kessler.
