Scientists have made human mini-brains that develop and get sick

The team was able to grow organoids that resembled the human cerebral cortex. It is noted that this was successful

done with unprecedented consistency and quality.

During the work, the researchers loaded the stemcells in a mixture of three chemical solutions. Then they began to form structures that mimic the layering of the human cerebral cortex. They have succeeded in generating glial outer radial (oRG) cells, specialized stem cells that are needed to expand the cerebral hemispheres in humans and monkeys. According to the scientists, these cells were obtained for the first time in such a system.

Like other groups, the researchers used inhibitors—chemicals that tell a developing cell what it shouldn't turn into. 

They found that they needed to block threesignaling pathways to make the cells cortical within a few weeks. The researchers were able to generate cortical organoids with unprecedented precision. 

During the experiment, the authors were able to simulate several diseases associated with the development of the nervous system, such as microcephaly, on organoids.

Scientists have confirmed that their organelles develop a special kind of neural stem cells that play a critical role in brain development in humans and monkeys. They are responsible for the cerebral cortex in primates.

It is noted that they are going to test therapies and medications on mini-brains in order to understand how the human body would react in a similar scenario.
