Nutritionists generally do not recommend eating chocolate, as it can be high in calories, fat and sugar. However
The study was carried out on rats. The scientists were interested in the effect of dark chocolate consumption on synapses in a specific region of the brain known as the CA1 hippocampal region. More specifically, the researchers wanted to test whether the consumption of this product affects the activity and variability over time of synapses in a given zone.
For experiments, scientists took 35 rats anddivided them into five groups of 7 individuals. Each group was fed dark chocolate in different diets. All animals were under stress. Overall, experiments have shown that systematic consumption of dark chocolate can reverse the adverse effects of chronic stress on synaptic activity and plasticity. This, in turn, will have a beneficial effect on both memory and learning.
