The US Air Force showed a spectacular video of the destruction of the ship with the GBU-31 Joint Direct Attack Munition smart bomb with the Quicksink kit

The United States Air Force has published a spectacular video from the tests of the smart bomb -31 Joint Direct Attack

Munition with Quicksink Kit.

What is known

The ammunition was specially modified as part ofQuicksink program for use as an anti-ship bomb. The tests took place in the spring, and now the service has published a new video showing footage from cameras installed directly on the ship.

GBU-31 Joint Direct Attack Munition with Quicksinkwill allow the US Air Force to destroy ships with aircraft. The homing head is combined with an infrared camera. Both elements are installed in front of the ammunition. In addition, the bomb has an inertial guidance system and GPS.

All this together makes it possible for the GBU-31 JointDirect Attack Munition to hit ships regardless of weather conditions. After being launched from an aircraft, the bomb glides towards the target. Then the Quicksink kit is activated to determine the exact coordinates, course and speed of the ship. The explosion occurs below the waterline. Even if the ship does not go to the bottom after the attack, with a high degree of probability, it will no longer be able to participate in hostilities.
