Tighter rules on Google Play: Google has banned hidden subscriptions in apps

Google is introducing new, stricter rules for app developers in the Google Play Store.

What
new

First of all, the company declares warhidden paid subscriptions. Often, a user activates a paid subscription without even knowing it, all because of opaque and misleading schemes.

But the new conditions will change this. Now developers will be required to indicate whether a fee is required for using the application or part of it, and also disclose in an accessible form the cost of the subscription and the frequency of its renewal. If only a trial version of the application is free, you must indicate how long it is valid for, when it will expire, what is necessary to cancel it, and how much the extended license will cost.

To protect users who forget about the expiration dates of free versions from spending, Google will send an email notification about the imminent withdrawal of money.

“We also notify active subscribers who delete an app that deleting does not automatically cancel their subscription to the service,” Google representatives add.

In addition, the ability toapplications to collect data on user geolocations in the background and access is blocked for deepfakes that create content that misinforms about politics or significant public issues.

The new rules come into force in August for new applications and in November for already published ones.
