US to decommission 170 fighters in 2023, including 67 F-15 Eagles and 26 F-16 Fighting Falcons

The U.S. Air Force, along with the A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft, will be able towrite off almost two hundred obsolete

Fighters.

What is known

National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)involves reducing the fleet of American fighters from 1970 to 1800 units. More than half of them are fourth-generation Eagle and Fighting Falcon aircraft.

F-16 Fighting Falcon fleet to be reduced by 26fighters in modifications C / D. The Air Force will also decommission 67 F-15C / D Eagle aircraft at once. However, before that, the service must send a report to Congress on the impact on current operations the removal of the F-15 Eagle from service.

But the United States will not only get rid of aircraft.The NDAA also states that in fiscal year 2023, the Department of Defense will purchase 69 F-35 A/B/C Lightning II fighter jets, eight F-18 Super Hornets, seven E-2D Hawkeyes and KC-130J tankers. In addition, do not forget that Congress did not allow the decommissioning of the old Block 20 level F-22 Raptor fighters.
