In 2018, Sapkowski had a falling out with CD Projekt.demanding $16 million from the company. Initially, the parties agreed on a one-time sale of rights, and the author of the universe refused a percentage of game sales, as he did not believe in the success of the project. As a result, the games began to generate profits, which did not end up in the writer’s pocket. Then CD Projekt decided to remain on good terms with Sapkowski and paid him compensation, but less than the requested amount.

Now the writer and CD Projekt have a new contract.Firstly, fans have hope for a new part of The Witcher. In September 2019, the studio announced that it was moving to a “dual franchise” model, and would develop The Witcher and Cyberpunk in parallel. Secondly, now developers will not have to spend additional time resolving financial issues.
