Scientists from Singapore and Australia successfully test coronavirus vaccine on animals

The Clec9A-RBD project is created on the basis of a DNA vaccine, which, after being introduced into a cell, ensures the production of proteins

pathogens or antigens, thus causingimmune reaction. As Mirelle Lahod, an associate professor at the Australian Monash University, told the publication, “the antibodies used in the development were previously used in vaccines against cancer and influenza.”

The drug has recently been successfully tested foranimals. Human trials are just ahead. However, scientists are already saying that this drug is quite promising for itself and can be used in the treatment of people. Its main feature is that it was created using genetic engineering technologies.

The mechanism of work of the drugs is as follows: Once injected into a cell, the vaccine begins to produce pathogenic proteins or antigens, causing an immune response. The antibodies used in the development were used in vaccines against cancer and influenza.

Associate Professor at the Yong Lu Lin School of MedicineNational University of Singapore Silvia Alonso emphasized that “the DNA vaccine is very effective in stimulating the immune system, so it is especially suitable for older people.” In addition, she said, “such genetically engineered drugs can be easily modified depending on the mutation of the virus, so such a vaccine may be effective not only against COVID-19.”

The university representative also pointed out that "DNA vaccines are made only once, this is relevant during a pandemic, when millions of doses are required."

Scientists expect clinical trials to begin next year.
