Бунт и погромы на заводе по производству iPhone: зарплату забрали смартфонами, ущерб — около $60 млн

Last weekend at the Wistron factory in India, which produces smartphones for Apple

(mostly low-cost models, including the second-generation iPhone SE), riots occurred.

What happened and why

It all started with a relatively peaceful picket, which was attended by the company's employees. They demanded that their wages be paid in full. As it turned out, the contractor did not give them the money they earned for several months, which is why the workers rebelled.

Over time, the protest grew into a real riot, and unknown people joined the employees. They began smashing parked cars, breaking windows, and breaking equipment on the assembly line. Then they got to the warehouse where the finished iPhones were stored and took the smartphones, apparently to settle the debt.

According to Labor Minister Shrvram HebbarHebbar), the Taiwanese company Wistron has entered into agreements with six Indian companies to hire almost 9 thousand employees. She provided these companies with funds to pay for their labor, but they delayed payments. Over the past three months, Wistron has had a conflict with its contractors.

As a result, the government ordered Wistron to pay salaries within three days.

In addition, Apple is conducting its own investigation and has sent several of its auditors to the plant who will study the documentation and try to find out what is really going on.
