The US Air Force has decided to revive the legendary William Tell competition. It's connected
What is known
The William Tell contest took place for the first timeduring the Cold War in 1954. The last event took place 19 years ago in honor of the 50th anniversary. The competition has for decades offered airmen the opportunity to showcase their skills and compete for the title of Top Gun.

The event is scheduled for September 11-15, 2023of the year. It will take place at Savannah Air National Guard Air Base, Georgia. The crews of the F-35 Lightning II, F-22 Raptor and F-15 Eagle fighters will take part in the competition.
It is possible that the role of opponents will beF-16 Fighting Falcon, Mirage F1 aircraft and QF-16 unmanned aerial vehicles. So far, this information has not been officially confirmed by the US Air Force command.

Each team must have one captain,a maximum crew of eight, two reconnaissance pilots and three people for loading weapons. Participants will compete for both individual and team awards.

It is expected that the competition "William Tell"will help prepare pilots for combat operations in the Indo-Pacific region. In real combat, they may encounter Chinese fighters, such as the J-16, which recently made a dangerous maneuver near the RC-135 Rivet Joint aircraft.
