The Ukrainian Defense Forces showed how the rare 2S22 Bogdan wheeled howitzer works. This is the first self-propelled

Ukrainian-made artillery mount, which has a caliber of 155 mm.

What is known

Development began in 2016.Bogdan uses the KrAZ-63221 chassis with an armored cab. A 155 mm caliber gun is installed in the rear of the combat vehicle. According to the developers, the artillery system can hit targets at a distance of more than 40 km. As part of the tests, conducted at the beginning of 2022, it was possible to achieve a range of 42 km.

KrAZ-63221 vehicle with wheel arrangement6×6 weighs 28 tons and is equipped with an engine producing approximately 400 horsepower. It allows you to reach speeds of up to 80 km/h on the highway and up to 30 km/h on rough terrain. The maximum range is 1000 km.

At the moment, it is not known how many units of 2S22"Bogdan" is in the arsenal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the beginning of 2023, Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov announced that a new batch of self-propelled howitzers would go to the front "in a few months."

Last year, the howitzer took part in the liberation of Snake Island in the Black Sea. Bogdan, together with CAESAR, carried out artillery strikes on the positions of Russian troops.
