For the first time in the exclusion zone: Boston Dynamics robot dog was tested in Chernobyl

The famous robot dog Spot of the American company Boston Dynamics visited Ukraine.

State Agency for Exclusion Zone ManagementOn their Facebook page, researchers from the University of Bristol together with specialists from the State Specialized Enterprise “Central Enterprise for Radioactive Waste Management” (GSP “CPPRV”) used Spot in Chernobyl to detect areas with radioactive contamination.

In particular, radiometricand geophysical work on the territory of two sectors of the temporary localization site for radioactive waste “Red Forest” and on the territory of the radioactive waste disposal sites “Podlesny” and “Buryakovka”.

Unmanned aerial vehicles were also used for this purpose.aircraft, ground robotic systems, sensor-scanners to assess the distribution of radioactive materials in an area and in space, including photogrammetry, lidar, gamma spectrometer, hyperspectral and neutron sensors.

As a result, researchers will receive 3D images of contaminated areas and maps of the distribution of radionuclide activity.
