All these comparisons make no sense: Developer Avowed explained why the future RPG Obsidian should not be compared with The Outer Worlds or other games

We wrote that after the Xbox Games Showcase, the InXile Entertainment studio began to be accused of plagiarism after showing their game

Clockwork Revolution, which resemblesBioShock Infinite. However, this is not the only game from the exhibition that began to be compared with others. Now we have to “fight back” studio Obsidian Entertainment, which showed its future role-playing gameAvowed. It has already been compared to Skyrim, which was created by Bethesda, and to The Outer Worlds – another Obsidian RPG, but one of Avowed's developers explained that such comparisons are inappropriate.

What is known

On the rpgcodex forum, during a discussion about Avowed, Briar Diem appeared – one of the game's developers, who explained why all these comparisons don't make sense.

“The trailer doesn't have time to show muchyour 2 minutes. To clear up any misunderstandings, the game is large and open, it's unfair to compare it to Outer Worlds, which in my opinion is nothing like it. The studio that made the trailer did some color compression and image editing. The screenshots that have been released are a much better representation of what he looks like. A lot of the game is hidden right now, I think you'll have to wait until the next trailer or some kind of presentation to really see it.

Briar later also said on the forum thatAvowed – the game that has been in Alpha the longest of any Obsidian project. This is done to ensure that the game does not have serious problems at release. By the way, the graphics and lighting, which some criticize, were promised to be improved and demonstrated later.

For those who are not in the know

Avowed – single-player RPG fromfirst-person game where players take on the role of an envoy from the Edir Empire sent to investigate rumors of a spreading plague that threatens to destroy everything. The game takes place in the universe of Pillars of Eternity, another Obsidian game.

When to expect

The exact release date is unknown, but the game should be released in 2024 on PC and Xbox Series (immediately in Game Pass).
