Strange deposits and foam found in a river in Kamchatka

Alexander Varkentin, acting head of the Kamchatka Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography 

According to him, we are talking about the right tributary of the river. At the same time, he added, the color of the water is different from normal.

Earlier in the federal media there was information about the mass death of marine animals in the area of ​​the Malaya, Srednaya and Bolshaya Lagernye bays due to the increased concentration of petroleum hydrocarbons and phenols in the water.

Varkentin added that water samples were taken at the siteand soil. They were transferred to the Pacific branch of VNIRO in Vladivostok, a local laboratory and representatives of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for three independent studies. Based on their results, it will be possible to draw conclusions about the nature of the pollution.

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the RegionAlexey Kumarkov said that experts recorded an excess of the norm for the content of oil products in water by 3.6 times, and phenols - by 2.5 times. According to him, this is an "abnormal situation", however, such an excess cannot lead to serious environmental consequences.
