Alexander Ryzhikov, head of the department of zoonotic infections and influenza at the State Scientific Center for Virology and Biotechnology “Vector”, told reporters about this.
The peculiarity of the new vaccine is that it willbuild immunity from both COVID-19 and measles. The drug is being developed based on the recombinant measles virus “Leningrad-16”. It has been used for more than 40 years as a base for the measles vaccine, which is also used to vaccinate children.
The new vaccine is currently being tested forlaboratory animals. During this work, scientists will select a specific strain to compose a prophylactic vaccine. If animal tests show that the vaccine is safe and effective, it will be tested in humans.
