New catalysts will be more efficient and less energy-consuming compared to foreign analogues,
Hydrotreating catalysts are used inoil refineries to remove sulfur and nitrogen from various oil residues, which makes the product of higher quality and less harmful to the environment. Up to 70% of foreign catalysts now exist at such Russian enterprises. The work on the creation of a domestic analogue for the production of motor fuel with a reduced sulfur and nitrogen content will allow replacing imported products.
Scientists of the Institute of Catalysis of the SB RAS are studyingnanostructured sulfide hydrotreating catalysts based on carbon nanotubes. The knowledge gained will help create new catalysts for the production of environmentally friendly fuels, said in a statement from the institution.
Hydrotreating catalysts are used forremoval of sulfur and nitrogen from various oil residues. At the moment, up to 70% of foreign reagents of this type are used. The developed catalysts are intended to replace imported ones.
The knowledge gained will further allow creatingcatalysts with a higher efficiency of purification of raw materials from sulfur and nitrogen at lower temperatures and at lower energy consumption in comparison with foreign catalysts.
