A horse that died 22 years ago was cloned in the USA

The world's first cloned Przewalski's horse was recently born in the United States. For work, scientists used

genetic material frozen 40 years ago.

The foal was born in one of the veterinary clinicsTexas last month, writes Indicator. The genetic material for cloning was frozen in 1980 at the San Diego Zoo. All this time, the material was stored in the Frozen Zoo® biobank. The stallion that was cloned was born in Great Britain in 1975 and died in 1998, that is, 22 years ago.

A little later, the foal will also be transferred to the Safari Park.San Diego Zoo. There he will meet a herd of his kind. If the clone reproduces successfully, it could contribute to the genetic diversity of the endangered Przewalski horse population.
