Germany officially approves the purchase of the first 18 Leopard 2A8 tanks worth €525.6 million and a potential order worth €2.9 billion

Two weeks ago, information appeared that Germany plans to order at least 18 Leopard 2A8 tanks.

The purchase was officially approved by the government.

What is known

The German budget committee approved the acquisition18 Leopard 2A8 tanks worth €525.6 million ($565 million). There is also an option to purchase another 105 military vehicles, which will increase the total value of the contract to €2.9 billion ($3.1 billion).

Deliveries of tanks will begin no later than 2026. The purchase of military vehicles will not be financed from a fund worth €100 billion ($107.3 billion), but from the current budget of Germany.

In conclusion, we would like to add that the German company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) brought the first Leopard 2A8 demonstrator to the IDET 2023 exhibition in the Czech Republic. By the way, the Czech Republic intends to order 70 tanks.
