more information.

What is known

One of the downed helicopters was definitely the Mi-8, andthe second could be another Mi-8, Mi-24 or Mi-28N. As it became known, in both cases, Mi-8s were shot down, but not simple, but rare modifications of the MTPR-1 electronic warfare.

Mi-8MTPR-1 helicopters are intended forjamming aircraft and anti-aircraft missile systems of the enemy. To do this, they are equipped with an active interference station "Rychag-AV". It was created to provide protection for both aircraft and ground facilities.

The complex does not allow the use of aviation andanti-aircraft missiles within a radius of more than 100 km. As you can see, this time it didn't work. The helicopters were located at a distance of about 50 km from the Russian-Ukrainian border.

As for the Mi-8MTPR-1 themselves, they are not very expensive. The cost of each helicopter with the Rychag-AV active jamming station is no more than $10 million.
