Jony Ive and his firm have completed their first project since leaving Apple: a $60,000 vinyl record player

Design firm LoveFrom, founded by former Apple design chief Jony Ive, has designed

new product - Sondek LP12 vinyl player.

What it is

This is an exclusive version of the player releasedfor the 50th anniversary of the Linn Sondek LP12. Turntable maker and audio brand Linn handled the hardware, while Jony Ive’s LoveFrom handled the design. Linn CEO Gilad Tiefenbrun said the collaboration dates back to early 2022, when Tiefenbrun was suddenly approached to meet Ive via LinkedIn.

Interestingly, Fast Company reports that the jobLoveFrom's work on the Linn Sondek LP12-50 was free, and there is no contract or other financial arrangement between the two firms. "A significant percentage of our work is done purely for the love of it," Ive said, noting that the design firm makes money from its long-term contracts with companies like Airbnb and Ferrari.

Only 250 Linn Sondek models will be produced.LP12-50 with an updated design. They will be produced and delivered between August 2023 and March 2024. But those who wish can already reserve a limited edition player - it costs $60,000.
