Europe refused to use Russian and Chinese vaccines

We sign vaccine supply agreements only with countries that will produce the vaccine in

territory of the EU, and we do not negotiate with Russiaor China. This does not mean that other vaccines will not be able to enter our market, but they will have to go through an extensive certification procedure and they will never be part of the EU vaccination strategy, which consists of pre-ordering the vaccine on a [partial] advance payment basis.

The EC representative noted that this does not mean a complete exclusion of Russian and Chinese vaccines from the European market, but they will have to undergo a thorough certification procedure. 

Mamer emphasized that these countries are not evenNegotiations are underway on the supply of drugs. Previously, contracts for the supply of COVID-19 vaccines to the EU were already signed with companies that will produce drugs in the union, such as AstraZeneca, Sanofi-GSK and Johnson & Johnson.

In theory, these contracts involve delivery to the EUin total, about 1.2 billion doses of vaccines, with the largest contract — with AstraZeneca for 400 million doses — already came into force on August 27, and the EC paid €336 million under it.

Despite this, Reuters, citing senior EU officials, reported that the union predicts a shortage of vaccines, since some of the drugs may be ineffective.
