European satellites will map carbon emissions

German manufacturer OHB-System has signed a contract worth 445 million euros for the construction of a satellite network

This initiative is needed so that all countries of the Paris Climate Agreement can know detailed data on emissions.

The spacecraft is planned to be launched in 2025. They will be equipped withSentinels sensors that monitor everything from earthquake-related damage to the health of staple food crops.

Several sensors will also be installed on the satellite to help extract the signal and differentiate anthropogenic gas sources from those emitted by natural processes.

According to the requirements of the Paris Agreement, the countriesshould launch a satellite or satellite network by 2026. “Some of the optical devices are new and very sensitive, so we will have to follow the development of the devices and change them periodically. But, of course, we have to launch satellites by 2025 ”.

There are now six satellites in orbit.Sentinel systems that track carbon emissions. The OHB-System will be more sensitive to emissions and will help you monitor whether agreements are being followed.
