European Union will tighten control over digital giants

The information was shared by the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, in an interview with the newspaper.

We need better control over these platforms. European countries intend to secure themselves new powers that will allow themselves to resist the dominance of large companies in the market in the event of a threat to the interests of users or smaller competitors.

He noted that the EU countries will provide themselves with the authority to resist the dominance of large companies in the market, if this threatens the interests of users or smaller competitors.

New control rules, he said, noware being developed. Once the proposals have been agreed, they will need to be approved by the European Parliament and the Council of Europe. According to the Belgian agency Belga, the rules will be submitted by the end of this year. These will include measures to combat disinformation and the protection of personal data.

Sanctions will be possible if largeplatforms force users to limit their use of their services. Platforms need to be more responsible, accountable and transparent. The time has come to go beyond self-regulatory measures, said Deputy President of the European Commission Vera Jourova.

Earlier, European authorities have been investigating a number of corporations. Some of them were fined.
