Due to sanitary standards, 5G deployment in Russia will cost 5 times more money

According to established SanPiN, the level of exposure to radiation from cellular networks in Russia should not exceed 0.1

W per 1 sq. m at frequencies above 2 GHz. In turn, there is a more loyal standard of permissible electromagnetic radiation. It is accepted in the USA and Europe.

As calculated by the international associationGSMA operators, if they work according to current Russian standards, then operators will be forced to install approximately five times more base stations compared to operators who work according to more loyal standards.

Note that the limit is 0.1 W per 1 sq.m is valid only in residential areas. This means that more powerful towers are allowed to be installed, for example, near highways or in fields. However, the main consumers of the new generation of mobile communications are concentrated in cities.

Representatives of the International Association of OperatorsGSMA found that if 5G is deployed in Moscow within the Moscow Ring Road, then it will cost each operator approximately 37.2 billion rubles. And if only loyal standards are observed, then 6.7 billion rubles.

Despite the fact that Russia has the most stringent radiation exposure standards in the world, their negative impact is still a matter of debate.
